born in 1919,

joined the navy in 1937.

He was radio operator onboard 'U 30' from 1938 until 1940.

Then he served on board 'F 6 / Königin Luise' before he joined 'U 110', which was already deployed to France.

His commanding officer on both submarines was KptLt Fritz-Julius Lemp. 'U 110' was sunk east of Cape Farewell at 09 May 1941.





As a POW Georg Hoegel had to spend the years from 1941 until February 1947 in Canada.

Georg Hoegel works not only as an artist. He wrote an interesting book
with many illustrations about heraldic figures at conning towers
of German WW II submarines, which is also published in English:
